🚀 Who are Dub Pistols?
From their roots in the big beat explosion of the 90s to becoming one of the UK’s most electrifying live bands, Dub Pistols have evolved, adapted, and conquered. Formed by Barry Ashworth, the Pistols started as a DJ/production outfit inspired by acts like The Chemical Brothers and Fatboy Slim, before morphing into a full-blown live band that fuses dub, ska, hip-hop, reggae, jungle, and drum & bass into a sound that’s both infectious and timeless.
Over nearly three decades, Dub Pistols have carved out a legendary reputation, with ten albums, countless international tours, and a die-hard fanbase. They've played alongside The Prodigy, The Specials, Public Enemy, and The Happy Mondays, and their riotous performances at festivals like Glastonbury, Boomtown, and Bestival have cemented their status as one of the best live acts in the game.
Now, with their tenth album ‘Enter The Sound’ dropping in early 2025, plus a documentary and book on the way, these renegade Pistoleros show no signs of slowing down!

🔥 The Journey: From Big Beat to Festival Legends
Dub Pistols emerged in the mid-90s big beat scene, blending breakbeats with reggae, hip-hop, and electronic influences. Their debut album, ‘Point Blank’ (1998), featured anthems like ‘Cyclone’ and caught the attention of Jimmy Iovine, who signed them to Interscope Records in the US.
Their second album, ‘Six Million Ways to Live’, was shelved after 9/11 due to its politically charged lyrics, forcing them to reinvent themselves. Instead of fading away, they bounced back stronger, collaborating with legends like Terry Hallon tracks like ‘Problem Is’ and ‘Running from the Thoughts’.
As the 2000s rolled on, they became known for wild live performances, bringing together ska, jungle, punk, and bass-heavy beats to form their unmistakable sound. Albums like ‘Rum & Coke’ and ‘Worshipping the Dollar’ blended rowdy party vibes with social consciousness, while tracks like ‘Mucky Weekend’ became instant festival anthems.
By the 2010s, the band had cemented their place at the top of the UK’s live music scene, headlining major festivals and launching their own event, Mucky Weekender, which quickly became a highlight of the festival calendar.
Now, they continue to push boundaries, with new music, new tours, and even bigger plans for the future.
